Orienteering is PERFECT for Scouts or other youth groups!

Rogaining

ROGAINE? Isn't that hair tonic? NO! ROGAINE the sport pre-dates the drug! It was invented in Australia in the 1970s as kind of a cross between Orienteering and hiking/backpacking. Generally held in "outback" or wilderness-like locations, Rogaining covers a much wider area than O Meets held in parks. Your 2-person team (buddy system for safety) is given a map with all of the controls on it and you have a specified time limit in which to find as many controls as possible. More distant and difficult controls are worth more points. Although 4-, 6-, 8- and 12-hour events are held, the "classic" ROGAINE is 24 hours long with food service available on a "drop-in" basis at the Hash House!

Terradan was Meet Director for the 1995 North American ROGAINING Championships, a 24-hour event held in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State. CLICK to see photos and report.
