Fred,

I took a look at the Thurnhosbach, Heyerode and Nentershausen records,
without much success. I did find the individuals we were looking for, checked
their spouses and children's sponsors. There is not one mentioning of the
Dute surname. Here is what I found, perhaps a connection may surface later.

Thurnhosbach: Johann Adam VAUPEL married Catharina, daughter of Johannes
LANDAU of Thurnhosbach on April 28, 1765
Heyerode: Johann George SCHEFFER, schoolmaster and Anna Elisabeth,
daughter of the deceased Johannes ULRICH of Thurnhosbach, m.
     Feb. 16, 1794
Nentershausen: Johann Henrich GEORG, widower and Anna Catharina, surviving
daughter of Stephan HOSE of Rittmannshausen, m. Nov. 16, 1753

I don't want to perform a wild goose chase and check all of the church
records of the area. That would probably be a waste of money and time. I have
done quite a lot of research in the Rotenburg and Eschwege areas and don't
recall seeing the Dute surname anywhere.

At the moment I am hoping that the land records may yield some clue. Another
possibility could be to check Henrich DUTE's military record, if there is
one. I'll also try to find out if there are any other records of interest at
the archive. The church records do not seem to lead us anywhere at the
moment. Locating other 18th century DUTE families has top priority now.

While working another request I went back to the Holzhausen records. There
were a few DUTE families living there in the 18th century. Although I was not
able to find a (Johann) Henrich born 1750-1760, there were several
individuals of that name, also one or two Johann Adams. As the DUTE surname
is and was quite rare, there really may be a connection. Our Johann Adam may
have come to Rockensüss from far away. This could account for the fact that
although we know nine sponsors of his children, there is not one DUTE.
Usually there were at least one or two direct relatives.

Holzhausen is located in an area where many Hugenots settled, I may have
mentioned this before (especially Mariendorf, Carlsdorf and Friedrichsthal to
the West). I checked a few books pertaining to the Hugenots, including the
published church records of Mariendorf. However, there was not one mention of
the DUTE surname or anything similar.

I was a bit more successful on the DOELLEFELD (most common spelling in the
church records) line. However, there are conflicting dates. I'll list what I
found below.

Henrich DOELLEFELD was married three time. His first two wives, Elisabeth and
Anna Gelasia DÖNCH of Dorheim, seem to have been sisters. Catharina El. DUTE
was the third wife.
