Hi Fred,

just got back from the archives. Was able to find some info, however haven't
been able to locate where Heinrich DUTE came from. I didn't work on the GLEIM
line, yet.

The family did not originally come from Asmushausen/Schwarzenhasel. The first
entry I have is birth of son Johannes March 21, 1785.

I did take a look at Heinrich's children, especially at their godparents
hoping they would maybe lead me to Heinrich's place of birth.

The godfather of the Johannes mentioned above was Johannes DUTE of Rockensüß.
Having no other lead I checked the Rockensüß records. I was not able to
identify this Johannes, however there was a DUTE family living there. Johann
Adam DUTE and his wife Anna Christina LANDAU. They had six children
1769-1781. Johann Adam, who was a "Leinweber" just like Heinrich, died in
1802 at the age of 70. However, he wasn't born in Rockensüß either. I was not
able to find a marriage entry which might state his pob.

At least two of his sons and two of his grandchildren had family in
Rockensüß. But still no clue as to where the DUTEs orginally hailed from.

I then checked the Berneburg records as we have a mentioning of the name
there. It turned out to be the family of one of the sons of Johann Adam
(+1802) of Rockensüß.

I have gathered quite an amount of information but haven't been very
successful. Here are the details:

    d. May 8, 1794 Asmushausen (6y!?)
2) Catharina

note: there is an overlap of records 1790/91. The Schwarzenhasel records have
a son Johannes instead of Elisabeth. Godfather was Johannes GLEIM, the
mother's brother. This was copied into the Asmushausen records and was
corrected later.

I also checked some older lists for mentionings of the surname:
1543
Oberrieden: Wygant TUTTE

1553
Borken: Philips TUTH

1639
Holzhausen (probably near Immenhausen/N of Kassel): Henrich DUTTEN, smith and
barrel-maker
Dörnberg: Henrich TOTTIN

There was also a Johannes DUTE who served with the Hessians in America. He
was also from Holzhausen (which?) and was born about 1755/56 and died of
disease or other causes in 1780.

This info doesn't help at the moment, but you never know when it may come in
handy.

All for now,

Stephen
